Kitchen Grease Line and Drain Cleaning in Richmond
A busy commercial kitchen sends fryer residue, pan drippings, sauces, dairy and starchy food waste down its drains every shift. The grease leaves warm and liquid, cools inside the pipe, and sticks to the walls. Food particles catch on that coating until prep sinks drain slowly and floor drains start to hold water.
Emergency Rooter Services provides drain cleaning, hydro jetting and sewer line service for restaurants and food businesses in Richmond, IL. Homes get the same attention, since a household kitchen sink clogs for many of the same reasons on a smaller scale.
A grease trap catches a good share of the grease, but not all of it. What gets past moves on into the building drains and the main sewer line, and in a high-volume kitchen that buildup can grow quickly. Clearing the clog is step one. Keeping the line open is step two.
For a kitchen backup before service or after close, call 224-376-6837. We are open around the clock.
How We Handle Grease, Clogs and Repeat Problems
Commercial kitchen lines need more than a quick opening. Each of these methods plays a different role in keeping them flowing.
Drain Rodding
Rodding feeds a motorized cable into the line from a sink, floor drain or cleanout. The cutting head breaks through the blockage so water can drain again, which makes it the fast answer when a line has stopped during service.
- Prep and compartment sinks that have stopped
- Floor drains blocked by food waste and debris
- Restroom toilets and sinks
- Roots in the main sewer line
In a grease-heavy line, a cable opens a channel through the middle but leaves much of the coating on the walls. A single stopped sink points to its own branch; several kitchen drains at once point to the main. Lines that close up again quickly may need a camera look.
Hydro Jetting
Hydro jetting is the main tool for grease. Water under high pressure leaves a specialized nozzle, cuts the grease off the pipe walls and flushes it downstream, restoring much more of the pipe diameter than a cable can.
- Grease-coated kitchen lines and floor sinks
- Sludge and scale in heavily used drains
- Lines that keep failing after rodding
Jetting on a schedule can stretch the time between emergency calls. The technician still considers pipe age and condition first, and an older or damaged line may need a camera inspection before it is jetted.
Sewer Camera Inspection
A camera inspection shows where grease collects and whether anything else is holding it in place. The camera travels through the line and sends live video to a monitor that the manager or owner can watch.
- How much grease is built up and where
- Roots or debris catching waste
- Cracks, sags or broken sections, where visible
The camera inspection is free with qualifying drain cleaning. When it finds a pipe that is broken or collapsed, cleaning will not solve the problem, and we will explain repair options instead.
When a Kitchen Backup Involves the Main Sewer Line
Kitchen staff usually notice first. Sinks drain slowly near the end of a shift, floor drains hold water after mopping, or a dish machine discharge backs up into a floor sink. Many of these problems stay in the kitchen branch lines, but some reach the main.
These signs are not proof that any pipe is damaged. They suggest the blockage may be further down, where main-line rodding, jetting or a camera inspection may be needed. Grease that hot water pushes along can harden again deeper in the system, which is how a sink clog becomes main-line work.
- Floor drains back up when the dish machine empties
- Restroom toilets gurgle while the kitchen drains heavily
- Several sinks slow down during the same shift
- The same line clogs again a few weeks after cleaning
- Drains throughout the building are sluggish at once
- Water rises in a floor sink when fixtures elsewhere run

A simple clogged drain starts at $89 for drain cleaning, and rooter service and rodding also start at $89. That applies to a single stopped sink in a restaurant or a home.
When the problem involves the main sewer line or needs additional service, such as jetting a grease-coated line, the technician explains what was found and the recommended solution and gives a free estimate before any additional work begins.

Richmond Drain Cleaning FAQ
How often should a busy restaurant kitchen line be jetted?
It depends on volume, menu and how well the grease trap is maintained. A kitchen doing heavy frying may need jetting far more often than a light cafe. A camera inspection after cleaning shows how fast grease builds up, which lets us suggest a schedule based on the line itself rather than a guess. Hydro jetting currently has $100 off.
Can the cleaning be scheduled around our business hours?
Scheduled cleaning can be planned for times that suit the kitchen, such as before opening or after close, so staff and customers are not disrupted. Tell us your hours when you call. Emergencies are a different matter, and we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a 60-minute emergency response.
Why does our floor drain back up when the dish machine runs?
A dish machine releases a large volume of hot water at once. If the line it drains into is narrowed by grease, the water cannot get away fast enough and rises at the nearest floor drain. Rodding reopens the line, and jetting removes the coating that caused it. If several drains are involved, the main line may need attention.
Is rodding enough for a grease clog?
Rodding will usually get a stopped kitchen line draining again, which matters when service is underway. It leaves much of the grease on the pipe wall, though, so the line may narrow again. For a line that keeps clogging, hydro jetting is often the longer-lasting choice, provided the pipe is in good enough condition.
Does a grease trap keep all grease out of the drain lines?
No. A grease trap catches a large share of fats and oils, but some grease and fine food particles still pass through, especially when the trap is full or water runs very hot. That material can settle further down the line. Keeping the trap maintained and cleaning the lines regularly work together.
Do you also clean kitchen drains at homes in Richmond?
Yes. Household kitchen sinks clog from grease, coffee grounds, rice and food scraps. Drain cleaning for a simple clog starts at $89, and if the problem involves the main line or needs more work, you get an explanation and a free estimate first. Wiping greasy pans before washing them helps keep the line clear.
